Katy Haigh became Good Vibrations’ Executive Director in 2014. She began learning gamelan in 1998, whilst studying Music at The University of York. In 2003 she went on to introduce the genre to secondary schools in West London through the government’s Excellence in Cities Programme.
Katy sees gamelan as an amazing way of supporting people to develop crucial life skills, such as confidence, listening and teamwork.
Katy’s professional experience is as a Senior Manager in the charity, education and creative sectors. Most recently she led organisational culture-change for Inanna Inc., an Australian organisation supporting people affected by homelessness, mental illness and trauma. Previously she was a project manager and then Deputy Chief Executive at award-winning education, employment and enterprise charity, Vital Regeneration, which works in some of the most deprived wards of London.
Katy began her career in 2002 as a Music and Sex and Relationships Education Teacher at Claremont High School in West London, where she later became Deputy Head of Music. This was followed by working as a Communications Advisor at the Ministry of Education in New Zealand.
In her spare time, Katy loves painting and composing.
