Rahayu Supanggah sadly passed away in November 2020. He was one of the most talented and innovative composers and gamelan musicians of our time, and we are honoured that he chose to support our work as patron of Good Vibrations .
Born in Java in 1949 into a family of master puppeteers, renowned musician and composers, Rahayu Supanggah was one of Indonesia’s most prolific artists working in the field of Gamelan music and culture. He enjoyed an international reputation as a pioneering academic and collaborator in this field.
In May 2007, Southbank Centre appointed Supanggah as Artist in Residence for three years to assist with performances and the development of the Gamelan Programme. In addition to his work as Southbank Centre Artist in Residence, Supanggah collaborated on a composition with the Kronos Quartet.
He will be very much missed.
